Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended mixed as key heavyweights staged a rebound amid concerns on Greece’s referendum plan that may threaten Europe’s debt rescue plan, dealers said.
At the close, the FBM KLCI declined 4.69 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 1,470.95 after opening 7.84 points lower at 1,467.8.
In a bearish market, 15 of the 30 counters in the key index were lower, led by Hong Leong Bank, which dropped 22 sen to RM10.50, while two counters were flat.
However, losses were capped by another 13 counters headed by DiGi, which gained 60 sen to RM32.30, and BAT, rising 42 sen to RM46.00.
The benchmark index hovered between 1,457.5 and 1,473.13 yesterday.
CIMB Investment Bank Bhd research head Terence Wong said the market rebounded after Monday’s selloff, following the bounce in regional markets.
He said the market made a cautious rebound as investors kept an eye on Greece and Europe’s sovereign debt problem.
The market breadth was positive as gainers led losers by 374 to 363 while 285 counters were unchanged, 448 untraded and 20 others suspended.
A total of 1.56 billion shares valued at RM1.7 billion were traded compared with 1.19 billion shares worth RM1.29 billion on Tuesday.
The Finance Index fell 158.99 points to 13,274.38, the Industrial Index eased 1.23 points to 2,691.01, but the Plantation Index rose 34.05 points to 7,519.01.
Among actives, Karambunai rose 6 sen to 20.5 sen, SAAG Consolidated rose 1 sen to 8 sen and Harvest Court gained 9.5 sen to 49.5 sen.
Among top gainers, Amtel Holdings increased 30 sen to 91 sen, Sarawak Oil Palms rose 21 sen to RM4.46 and Suiwah Corp added 20 sen to RM1.60.
Among losers, Nestle lost 70 sen RM49.70, Panasonic Manufacturing fell 40 sen to RM19.06 and Choo Bee Metal slipped 20 sen to RM1.50.
Meanwhile, the FBM KLCI futures contract closed firm, tracking the mild rebound on the cash market, dealers said.
Both November 2011 and March 2012 rose 0.5 point each to settle at 1,467 and 1,461, respectively, while December 2011 was flat at 1,465.5 and June 2012 added 2.5 points to 1,462.5.
Turnover was at 9,745 lots, up 1,453 lots, while open interest stood at 20,505 contracts. – Bernama
